I’m on the move! Just took my first test drive on Mars, covering about 16 feet (5 meters). NASA displayed a photo taken by the rover showing the wheel tread marks left in the reddish, sandy Martian soil after its first drive.Īnother vivid image of the surrounding landscape shows a rugged, ruddy terrain littered with large, dark boulders in the foreground and a tall outcropping of rocky, layered deposits in the distance – marking the edge of the river delta.
The surface of Mars directly below NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover is seen using the Rover Down-Look Camera in an image acquired Febru Perseverance is capable of averaging 200 metres of driving a day. The roundabout, back and forth drive lasted just 33 minutes and went so well that the six-wheeled rover was back on the move Friday. “It went incredibly well,” Anais Zarifian, a JPL mobility test engineer for Perseverance, said during a teleconference briefing with reporters, calling it a “huge milestone” for the mission. Taking directions from mission managers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) near Los Angeles, the rover rolled four metres (13.1 feet) forward, turned about 150 degrees to its left and then drove backwards another 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) for a total of 6.5 metres (21.3 feet) during its half-hour test within Jezero Crater, site of an ancient, long-vanished lake bed and river delta on Mars. The Perseverance rover first ventured from its landing position Thursday, two weeks after landing on the Red Planet to seek signs of past life. As NZBMatrix does a good job of posting any planned maintenance or outages on. Either via a Twitter account or another domain would work nicely. For future issues it would also be nice if NewsLeecher had a way to notify customers of outages. We hope the site and validation server access is restored soon.

So we’re not changing our opinion of the software over this incident but also understand why some customers are frustrated by the outage. We admire the new features and pace of development over these last few months. NewsLeecher has been one of our favorite Usenet clients over the years. As in this case technical issues leave some users without access to the newsreader and SuperSearch service. Regardless of the reason behind the issue the outage points to a deeper challenge for software developers who choose to validate software keys on launch or at regular internals. Perhaps NewsLeecher phones home at certain intervals. We’re not sure why some are having issues while others aren’t. With the software reporting an error in response from the key validation server. We have been able to use NewsLeecher 5 beta 12 and SuperSearch features but understand some are having problems. Visiting the website returns a ‘Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)’ message. Today is worse though as users are reporting that not only the site is down but the newsreader is failing to work properly for some as the software key validation server isn’t responding.
We didn’t report it though since it appeared to be a short-term problem and all sites have technical issues now and then. Updates above for recurring downtime.Ī few days ago we heard from a NewsLeecher user that the site was down for a short period of time. Originally posted Januafter the first Newsleecher outage.
